आपको बता दें कि सबसे पहले नया साल मनाने की यह परंपर ग्रिगोरियन कैलेंडर से शुरू हुई थी. इसकी शुरूआत 15 अक्टूबर 1582 में हुई. इस कैलेंडर की शुरूआत ईसाइयों ने की थी. ग्रिगोरियन कैलेंडर आने से पहले रूस का जूलियन कैलेंडर था. इसमें केवल 10 महीने ही थे. साथ ही इस कैलेंडर में क्रिसमस की तारीख भी हर साल बदलती रहती थी. अमेरिका के नेपल्स के फिजीशियन एलॉयसिस लिलिअस ने नया कैलेंडर पेश किया . इस कैलेंडर में 1 जनवरी को पहला दिन था. तभी से यह कैलेंडर पूरी दुनिया में प्रचलित हो गया. और 1 जनवरी को नया साल मनाया जाने लगा. भारत में

भारत में नया साल विभिन्न स्थानों पर अलग-अलग तिथियों पर मनाया जाता है. ज्यादातर ये तिथियां मार्च और अप्रैल के महीने में पड़ती हैं. पंजाब में नया साल बैशाखी के रूप में 13 अप्रैल को मनाया जाता है. सिख धर्म को मानने वाले इसे नानकशाही कैलेंडर के अनुसार मार्च में होली के दूसरे दिन मनाते हैं. जैन धर्म के लोग नववर्ष को दिवाली के अगले दिन मनाते हैं. यह भगवान महावीर स्वामी की मोक्ष प्राप्ति के अगले दिन से शुरू होता है.
